The Lions Clubs New Zealand Child Mobility Foundation
Our mission
The Lions Clubs New Zealand Child Mobility Foundation will benefit the community by making provision for young people with limited mobility while being sensitive to their mental and emotional needs.
The Hart Walker
The Hart Walker is a customised orthotic walking frame which has fitted bracing around the child's chest, hips and down the lower limbs to provide support and alignment. It has movable joints which are adjustable to the growing child.
Initial Hart Walker assessments, fittings, and ongoing adjustments are performed at clinics held twice a year in Auckland, Wellington,Christchurch and Dunedin.
Lions Clubs assist with organising venues and refreshments for the technicians and families who attend.
The Foundation
The Child Mobility Foundation is the first point of contact for New Zealand families seeking assistance with equipment for physically disabled children.
Formed in 2011,the CMF has five trustees appointed from New Zealand Lions, plus our coordinator Genny Hanning and Treasurer Steve Bennett (NZ Lions Treasurer).
Our role is to organise the Hart Walker clinics, and provide guidance to families and Lions Clubs on mobility devices. We ensure the protocols, procedures and policies are followed to achieve a successful child rnobility project.
The CMF coordinates the supply of the Hart Walker and other equipment, but does not fund any items directly.
Funding
This foundation relies on the support of Lions Clubs and voluntary donations. If you would like to help, please donate, so that CMF can continue its work effectively for the
well-being of New Zealand's physically disabled children.
